No. We know that many climbing sites have poor or no cellular reception. FirstBolt is designed for full offline use. You can download crag data in advance, and the image recognition (AI) runs locally on your device without needing a data connection.

Our app uses a specialized Computer Vision algorithm (Patent Pending). When you take a photo, the app analyzes the unique visual features of the rock and the bolt's position. It then compares these features against our database to find a match, usually in under two seconds.

While our AI is highly accurate, lighting or new rock features can sometimes affect results. In such cases, you can still find the route using our GPS-based map, sector lists, or by scanning an NFC tag if the crag is equipped with them.

Yes! We believe in a community-driven approach. Authorized users can add new sites, sectors, and routes. Every photo you upload helps improve the recognition engine for the next climber.

We use a "Data Fusion" approach, combining official guidebook data, user-generated content, and AI cross-referencing. However, climbing is an inherently risky sport, and we always advise climbers to use their own judgment and verify the route's condition on-site.

Absolutely. FirstBolt includes a personal Logbook where you can record your "Ticks" (successful climbs), the style of ascent (Lead, Top-rope, Flash, etc.), and save photos of your climb to your personal gallery.
